The Death Penalty And Its Effects On Society - 826 Words

The death penalty is still a major topic even in today’s society. In this short paper I am going to analyze the Supreme Court decision and how it influences the death penalty, the financial impact on society, and social impact of the death penalty on society. The death penalty does cause a financial burden on society to the point that a state can go bankrupt. The death penalty need to be handed down on case by case bases. Moreover, it cheaper to just give a sentence of life without parole. The death penalty has been a controversial issue as long as one can remember. The death penalty also called capital punishment is defined as â€Å"Capital punishment or the death penalty is a legal process whereby a person is put to death by the state as a punishment for a crime. The judicial decree that someone be punished in this manner is a death sentence, while the actual enforcement is an execution (Capital Punishment, 2014).† With that being said, and with extensive research it appears that the Supreme Court started handling the death penalty on a case by case bases. According to, (Case Brief, 2014) states that â€Å"the supreme court of Georgia subsequently set aside a defendants death sentences on an army robbery that resorted in two murders , on the basis that defendants are rarely subject to capital punishment for that crime.
